The education of students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) constitutes a critical and ever-evolving field, as each individual presents a unique profile of strengths and difficulties. However, there is a great difficulty for all: in social interaction and in mastering independent living skills.
Effective training in these vital skills is fundamental. It addresses basic human needs, enhances the students’ self-image, and ensures their dignity, leading to a better quality of life and, ultimately, to autonomy and meaningful social inclusion, while simultaneously reducing dependence on educators and caregivers.
Educators, recognizing these fundamental needs of their autistic students, strive to train them by utilizing best practices, such as the TEACCH method (Treatment and Education of Autistic and Related Communication Handicapped Children). Although this method is widely recognized, the available literature often remains at a theoretical level, without providing sufficient free practical guides and differentiated examples of implementation.
The Erasmus+ project RISE (Resources for Independence and Social Engagement) aims to bridge precisely this gap. Through a transnational collaboration, it targets the creation of digital courses (MOOCs) and a practical handbook based on Structured Learning. The objective is the professional development of educators and the creation of innovative tools that will function directly for the benefit of their autistic students.
